St Winefride's Chapel and Holy Well
A Place of Pilgrimage for 1300 Years
The St Winefride's shrine is open daily throughout the year. Opening times for the Holywell complex, the informative exhibition and shop are as follows:
Good Friday closed at 2.00pm. Reopen at 7.30pm for way of the cross with a candlelight procession.
1 April - 30 September: Sunday - Friday 09.00 - 17.00 / Saturday 09.00 - 17.00
1 October - 31 March: Sunday - Saturday 10.00 - 16.00
Closed 25th & 26th December
The museum is open between 12.00 and 16.00, on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 3 April until 29 September, and Summer Bank Holidays or at all other times by prior appointment.
Adult: £0.80 (over 60: £0.60)
Family (2+3): £1.75
Student (with student card): £0.40
There are no added charges to the Informative Exhibition or the Museum. All earnings from entry charges and the Shop go towards the maintenance of the shrine.
Following an unbroken ritual first established over 100 years ago, throughout the pilgrimage season (Pentecost to the last Sunday in September), there is a daily service at the Well (15 minutes) to which all pilgrims and visitors are welcome.
Monday - Saturday: 12.00
Sunday Mass is celebrated at the Well, throughout the year at 17.00hrs.
Rite of Bathing
People have been bathing at the famous St Winefride's Well for over 1,000 years and they still do to this day. Pilgrims wishing to bathe are welcome to do so at designated times. Pilgrims should wear suitable clothes for bathing. Towels are not supplied on site.
